What can I do about a sneaky co-worker?

I recently returned from vacation to find that the owner's daughter accessed private files in my computer and modified my program list. She asked for my password so that she could print out ONE SPECIFIC DOCUMENT, however after checking my pc when I returned i noticed access points. I also verified it was her by reviewing security video and found that she AND her husband were in my office togather perusing my documents. These personal documents aren't too personal but the very instance of this infuriates me. I left early and have decided not to return until someone calls and asks what's going on. Anyone have any suggestions or similar situations they could share? I really don't know what to do or how to even look at them without losing my temper.

Never give out your password. If you have to give her something before you left for vacation...give her a word or number but not your actual password. Then when she can't get in and it locks her out... You can always just say, "Oh I changed it, I must have given you the old password!"

I'd be looking for another job. I don't care if she is the owner's daughter, I would feel violated and would not be able to trust anything the owner & his/her family said or did. But that's just me.

Don't stay home waiting for a phone call. Get on back to work and stay there until you find another job!!

Work for an employer that trusts you and one that you can trust.

write her an email asking her if she accessed any other files on your computer. if she says no, confront her with the facts. and see what she ahs to say for herself. if she pulls the "i'm the owners daughter line" go to the owner with the information and the facts and express directly to him your concerns, but i have a feeling someone along the way is going to ask you why you are keeping personal information on your business computer, so be careful. good luck. i hate snoops

you are not entitled to any privacy in the workplace, any and all files, emails, documents ,etc belong to the company.

The office is NEVER a place for personal documents. If you have to do them on the office computer, copy them on a disc and delete the docs on the hard drive. This will protect you from the always present "sneaky co-worker."

I'm sure the reason you were asked for you password was so they could review your computer files. Let this be a lesson for you -- never repeat this mistake.

You seem to mistake the fact that the office owns the computer, you don't. Any personal files you put there belongs to them, not to you. The computer is supposed to be used for business use only, and not for personal use. Any personal files you leave on the hard drive is their property, not yours. They do not have to apologize for accessing their property -- it is you who should apologize for using their equipment for your personal use.

Don't use the office computer for your personal business and you won't have this problem in the future. In the meantime, because of your misunderstanding of the rules of ownership, you have put yourself in a vulnerable position. If the personal files are damaging enough, you may be fired.

Don't make this mistake again -- lesson learned, okay!!!
