A baby and older child sharing a room...good or bad idea?

I have a six year age gap between my first child and my newborn. I live in a two bedroom condo, and my child's room is huge, and so is our master bedroom, however, it is also my office so its pretty cramped. My one month old is big, and is outgrowing his bassinet so I have to move him into a crib soon. I'm stuck, because I don't want him waking up my 6yr. old all the time, but at the same time, I don't want him getting used to sleeping with Mommy and Daddy... any suggestions? BTW, my 6yr old WANTS him in the room with her (but maybe she doesn't realize what she's in for). She is a very strong sleeper though (hardly anything wakes her up)

You could try it but I think the newborn will end up disturbing the older child's sleep. Put the crib in your room if you have to. Doing that would also be more convenient for night time feedings.

I would put the crib in the livingroom. Can you convert a section of your living room to the baby bedroom you can even get a room divider. Then when baby is older put him in the room with his sister.

Summer is almost here too so if you want to put the baby in the room with sis then wait til summer so it will be ok if she wakes up with baby.

That's no problem. I shared my room with my baby brother when I was a little girl, and also 6 years old. It wasn't a big deal. AND my room was really small!

The whole crying thing didn't really annoy me, and it kind of bonded us and gave mom a break when he woke me up and I would play with him for a little while.

We shared the room for a year or two, and then we got a bigger house. You might want to think about that too.

Sure, I would throw him in the room with her. Just try it out. Although, I do suggest getting a bigger condo for when the baby gets a little older.
I don't think it would be such a good idea to put your daughter and son in the same room when theyre older...

But yeah, for now it should be fine!
