Database sharing?

How do you set-up a Central Information System?鈥? Let鈥檚 say I have a small office that has its own website and this office would like to share its database thru the internet, but with a good security鈥? I would like to share files like GIS (Geographical Information System), statistical databases and etc. my question is what are the software, hardware and expertise that I need in order to do this database sharing project? Is there any other option of sharing data other than the internet???

1) You can set up your database server in such a way that other people can point to from everywhere (assuming that you have good security). Then you can share the database.

2) However, instead of sharing the database itself, you can create some kind of web services that would return certain things in the database. Other users would call these web services to get the information that they need. This would be the most convenient and secured approach.

using mysql you could set up the directory that you use to share as protected,and put a password script into that directory, the user would have to have two passwords to get in... you could also put an access list in the db so that only those authenticated users could get the data... also in your mymql db, you could allow only certain ip's to read the mysql data... that certainly should handle the security problems.
