Office Bathroom Etiquette?

A woman who works in my building is bullimic (yes, this is factual...how I know it to be factual is an entirely different story). While I feel for her, having suffered with eating disorders in the past myself, I feel that it's truly none of my business whether or not she chooses to digest her food (mind you, we're not even on a first name basis)

The problem is, she's...messy. We share a 2 stall bathroom on our floor, one stall being handicapped. She purges daily between 12 and 1, and always chooses the first stall. After she visits the ladies room, there is always vomit splattered on the seat of the toilet, and remnants floating in the bowl. I hate to use the handicapped stall (as I am not) but I'll be damned if I'm washing someone elses puke of the office toilet. Is there a way I can approach this situation without seriously offending her?

Absolutely. Go to your HR department and complain. They can bring it up to her anonymously and leave you out of it, but that is the right venue for addressing something of this nature.

Try this first .. without naming names, go to a supervisor and tell them of the daily mess in the bathroom. Tell her how unsanitary this is.

Another consideration is .. what-if one day a person got really, really, sick at work and had to use the bathroom -- then they had this to deal with .. omg.

I don't know how many people there are where you work -- but if there are numerous people who work there -- a person in authority could put out a memo to ALL workers, that there is a DAILY problem going on in the bathroom which must stop .. and give a simple explanation of the mess - and how it is unsanitary to all employees,etc. Make sure, she gets one.

Let a supervisor handle this situation.

Also - you (or whoever) could post a BIG sign in the bathroom about cleanliness, sanitary, and cleaning up messes on the floor, and in the toilet if they make one. Be specific .. no names needed ... but make the sign BIG -- and be very specific.

This person must not worry about other people - or being clean - if she leaves such a mess of her on doing ... so! - if these things don't work .. then her boss needs to tell her up-front .. and also tell her not to do it.

She is not troubled about offending others with what she dose. Go to the head of your department if that dose not work confront her.
