3 1/2 month old cold sore question....?

I have always gotten cold sores since I was a child whenever I get sick anyway yesterday I was sharing a drink with my 3 year old daughter..and she woke up this morning with a pus filled cold sore. I didn't have a break out or anything..but after I shared my daughters drink I was kissing my three month old baby. I am totally freaking out. I have read somewhere that cold sores are dangerous on infants or newborns. I have read about newborns but not anything about infants three months. What about a three and half month olds?? Cold sores are the worst thing I feel so bad for my three year old cause she cant kiss/ hug the baby. I am panicking about my baby. Any ideas? Anyone who had this happen to their baby?? My doctor is out of the office till Monday so I need some advice. I am breastfeeding so thinking that might help with the antibodies?? She hasn't shown any signs. please no mean comments I get enough teasing from my husband.They are horrible and had them since a child.

My hubby gets them so I was terrified of him passing them along to my children. For me, my fear isn't so much about getting oral herpes (cold sores), yes they're not the greatest thing to have but they're not the end of the world. However, you can actually give your child "genital" herpes if you pass along the virus in that area. Or it can spread to the eye and cause blindness in infants. In some severe cases an infant can actually die from the disease if not treated. So, I did tons of research on it when I had my son and my hubby all of a sudden got a cold sore.

The most important thing is to practice safe hygiene. Wash your hands well before touching your baby, especially before diaper changes. Don't kiss her etc. You can also ask your doctor about going on Valtrex until your baby is a little older and their immune system is stronger.

Edited to add: Yes, I have read that breastfeeding will help protect your 3 and a half month old by providing her with your antibodies. And like another poster said, don't beat yourself up about it. My husband has gotten them since he was a little boy and he still can't tell when one is coming on. In fact two weeks ago he and my son were sharing dinner and the next day out popped a cold sore. You just do what you can and obviously you're looking out for the best interests of your children.

Ive heard horror stories about babies and cold sores, Just to be on the safe side I would call the doc and tell your story, and see what warning signs you should keep an eye out for if any.

I was trying to google it for you and the only thing that I really saw was to stay away from infant because it is dangerous to them. I am sorry I couldnt help more. Does your doctor have anyone else filling in for them?
