Alright. I need to persuade my mom.
This is what I want to say....

Alright. Since my birthday is coming up you said you would get me a plasma tv because I need a new tv in my room. The one I picked out was like 350 dollars. Thats around what you usually spend on birthdays. I would like a desktop instead. I know that we share a laptop right now, but I would like a computer that is mine. I found a desktop from dell for 379.99 dollars. I have about 250 dollars saved up. The monitor is 22 inches and it has a built in webcam and it has tv on it. I could buy a usb adapter which is around 20-35 dollars to connect to our wireless internet.
We don't need to spend all the money on Microsoft programs. I could just install open office for free legally.

There is a point, however, that you are overselling. Your last sentence should be "I have about $250 saved up." So get rid of everything you said after that. Stop, smile, and look at her with the expectation for her to respond. Do not say a word until she does.

This is your closing argument as it conveys that you don't want her to buy something FOR YOU, you want her to HELP YOU. And what mother doesn't like to help her son out!

She does not need to know the rest of the technical info that you give, nor will she care. Short, simple, and to the point is often the best.

You should show your mum the dell website, and show her what your planning on getting.

Other than that, it should work a treat.

You could also say, how you want to use it for college/school work etc.

a computer for $375 is a pretty cheap computer. i don't think that you will be happy with it. it will probably be slower than the laptop, and might not come with everything.

it sounds good, but u may want to ask for windows xp instead of vista, VISTA WILL BE SUPER SLOW ON THAT PC! ask for it and if she says yes then when u order it through the phone ask for windows xp, do it soon. Windows xp will make it faster. just say u dont want vista and u want xp. simple. after u have if go into google and search for avg anti virus. download. better then paying for norton and it works better in my sense. :) good luck
