Laser Hair Removal question....I'm only 13, but I need to get it done. What should I expect?

So i'm only 13, but i'm getting laser hair removal from my doctor's office because my hair is darker and thicker than most people, and it's really embarassing. I'm probably going to get it on my legs, lower back, mustache, bikini line, and possibly armpits.

I'm meeting with my doc in a few days to discuss it. But what should I expect? Does anyone have any experience with it? Please share as much as possible.

Thanks soo much. :)

Also: in most cases you have to be 15, but mine is reeeeeally bad, so i'm allowed to do it earlier. :/

heyy if ur hair is embarassing, Go for it! i first got it done when i was 14, so like i said, go for it! it may hurt a little bit at first but its all worth it in the end!

I had it domne myself - it麓s a mighty freedom, you麓ll love the results if it麓s correctly done.
please discuss with your doctor the possibility of hyperpigmentation - that is, that the laser could cause darker areas or spots on your skin. As the laser attacks the melanin in the hair follicle, the more melanin present in your skin (darker skin) the more likely hyperpigmentation is. That is why ideal candidates for laser hair removal are persons with very white skin adn very dark hair...
About the procedure itself, you麓ll feel a moderate amount of pain, which can be numbed by using a topical anesthethical cream. You麓ll feel a slight burn, like a rubber band slapping against your skin, each time the laser is shot. each shot usually treats an area of about half an inch, so get read for quite some rubber band slaps :-)
The hair stays put, and after a day or two, it麓ll fall out alone. That hair follicle is now dead, and hair won麓t grow again. BUT: we have a lot of dorment follicles, that activate when something happens to the active follicle. Measn, you may have to repeat the procedure a few times to get rid entirely of hair. I had to repeat it 4 times, each time less and less hair though. Now it麓s been about 3 years and I麓m hair-free!
Good luck and hope this helps! :-)

I'm a little older and can give you a little feedback. If it's possible, have your doctor prescribe numbing cream - especially for the first procedure. I find that it hurt a little. It's like someone snapping rubber bands on you. Then later at home, it might feel like you have a sunburn, especially in a warm shower. Also you might find some black spots around your clothes which are the burned hair follicles.

As time goes by, you will feel less and less pain because there will be less and less follicles of hair to laser.

Good luck with it. I had my legs, bikini, underarms done two years ago, and I don't have to THINK about shaving, waxing or anything. I found the upper lip was as successful.

You usually have to have anywhere from 4-6 treatments per area for the hair removal to be "permanent." Keep in mind that there will be some hair that is just stubborn and the laser treatments may not remove.

It isn't too bad. They generally ice the area a minute or two before they laser it, and even will try to ice it every few "zaps" or so. The laser feels hot when they are doing the treatment. Not unbearably hot, but a little uncomfortable. It feels like someone is popping you with a rubberband. It's a quick snap, light pain sensation.

Depending on your skin color though it could be easier or harder for you after treatment as far as having irritation, redness, swelling, etc.

Just discuss the possible problems with your doc.
