How can I tactfully ask one of the female employees that she is no longer allowed to use our shared washroom?

if she is doing a number 2...After she uses it office productivity drops dramatically as people start to cough and gag a lot from the residual smell. I think it is only fair to the other employees that I solve this problem, and there is a Ladies washroom in the restaurant a few short steps from our office.

just make her go out back and pinch a loaf behind the garbage bins.

Do a #2 in the ladies bathroom & don't put the toilet seat down while doing #1 & she'll learn :D

Well...perhaps you could post a message inside the washroom asking all employees to use the other facility in that situation, for everyone's comfort and privacy?

So, will it be fair to the employees and customers of the restaurant if you do this. Why don't you just install a sanitizing device? We have one where I work. It is wall mounted and dispenses a Lysol type of smell to help keep the odor down.Or, just put a can of air freshner in the bathroom and make up a flyer stating that anyone doing number 2 needs to spray the bathroom before leaving it.

You can't. May I suggest some Beano, Just a Drop, Lysol, noseplugs, a fan, removing the burritto stand...

Wow!! Good way to single her out. Have you looked into some deodorizers or air fresheners, the really powerful ones like Oust or Lysol? Try that before you try to kick her to the curb.

Actually, I'm not quite sure you can segregate someone from using their own work washroom. Isn't that a right or amenity that comes with going to work, they are supposed to provide you with the proper facilities. If she were really on her game, and you proposed this idea to her, she could potentially hire a lawyer and sue for damages of some sort.

But if you insist on giving her the boot, kindly explain the situation - and that it highly disrupts the working environment. Perhaps you can give her an added incentive for leaving work to handle number 2 (like an extra 10 mintue break or something else).

I think it's illegal to do that. She has rights at work, like everyone else. Buy lot's of bathroom sprays, and glade plug ins for the bathroom & office area. Tough (stinky) situation... lol
