Excel - read only / pdf ?

Hi i am putting a holiday excel on a shared server (my office) however i want it to only be read only therefore tamper-proof. i have followed the HELP read-only steps but it does'nt seem to work.. and i can still edit the work book. any ideas on how to make the holiday workbook tamper-proof??

THANKS

The suggetion (from slez) to use sheet protection is probably the least annoying option. No pop-ups and such.

Alternatively, you can protect the entire book using the save-as options. In Windows, when you select save as and the window pops up asking for the file name, there's a little known "tools" option in the top right. In there, under "general options" you can specify whether the user needs a password to modify or even open the book at all. Choose "password to modify" and the user will be asked for a password and told it's read-only when they don't have one.

Tools -> Protection -> Protect Sheet

Then you can enter a password to lock the sheet. No one can change it unless they go back to Protect Sheet and enter the password.

Adobe Acrobat PDF has its proven security. Only it can be edited through Acrobat Standard/Pro or Foxit Editor only if editing is allowed in the document.

If you Have Office 2007, you can download an add-in to save it in PDF/XPS(.net document) formats.

For Office 2003/earlier install Acrobat Distiller or any PDF printer.
