Adult sisters sharing bed weird?

My parents had my sister and I share a bed until she went off to college at 18 (I'm two and a half years older). They thought it would make us "closer." (We lived in a 3 bedroom house, but the third bedroom was my dad's office.) My sister never gave a second thought to us sleeping together, but it always bugged me a LOT. I'd wanted to buy a twin bed for myself, but our bedroom wouldn't fit a double bed AND a twin, and my parents would never let me have the third bedroom. Everyone in my white, Christian family thought there was nothing wrong with this arrangement and treated me like a freak and a pervert when I said that I was uncomfortable sleeping with another adult woman (I'm straight). I'm happily married now, but sometimes I still have unpleasant flashbacks and think that my husband is my sister sleeping next to me when I'm half asleep. Am I a weirdo pervert for having been uncomfortable with our 18-year sleeping arrangement?

Your parents are weird. I don't mind sharing a bed with my sister when we are at a hotel but to share a bed all the time is ridiculous. Your not a pervert, it's normal to feel uncomfortable sharing a bed with your sister and abnormal to share it with her.

When I was younger, I was always uncomfortable when I had to share a bed with one of my sisters or female cousins. It feels like they're invading your personal space, or your invading theirs.

no... and that was wrong for your parents to do that...you are perfectly normal, and it would be perfectly normal to have those flashbacks. But if it bothers you, go talk to someone about it...

I do not believe that there is anything wrong with sleeping with your sister. It happens all the time. I had to sleep in a bedroom with us 3 girls and belive me, they were the good ole days. We had alot of fun, talking , joking, laughing and having pillow fights. Didn't bother me a bit. But, you are not weird because you had a probem with it. Some do and some do not.

No, it's just some people don't like to be that close. I personally don't mind it, my granny and I even sleep in the same bed when I sleep over! Lol! My sister would definitely sleep in my bed if my husband wasn't in it when she comes to visit me now that I'm older. (She's only ten though, I guess she wouldn't if she were older). I think it's weird that you have flash backs, but I think it's mostly just that you spent SO many years sleeping next to her it's quite normal that you might think she was there when she wasn't, as long as it's not disturbing you. Know what I mean?

but... I would feel uncomfortable also. They could have gotten a trundle bed. It's a twin bed and has another bed that rolls out from underneath.
For 18 years is a little ridiculous. Not so bad if you are a child, but till 18. I don't think daddy wanted to give up his office and they used the excuse of wanting you and your sister being close. I didn't share a room with my older sister and we are very close. I shared a room with my younger sister and as adults we do not get along still. Just forget about it, there isn't much you can do with the past. besides... why would you feel like the weirdo or pervert? It wasn't your choice to have you share a bed with sis. She's your sister not just another female.

no, sharing a bed with your sister is not weird. alot a kids have to due to financial reasons.
