I cannot figure out what is wrong with me mentally...?

For a long time, I thought I had hearing problems because I couldn't figure out why I couldn't hear what people tell me the first or second time around. I recently took a hearing test at a doctor's office, and my hearing was perfect. There is something wrong in the "listening department" but I am concentrating hard. Everytime my boss or someone tells me something, I concentrate hard to hear what they are saying, but halfway through, my brain doesn't register what was said.
Eg: Boss: "Go make a copy of the check and bring it back to me" but all my brain heard was copy. Then my brain just wanders into multiple thoughts all at once. Im easily distracted. It is frustrating and embarrassing when people think that I am stupid. I have to wait 6 months to get health insurance so I have to wait until then to see a doctor. Can you share your stories with me, possibly tell me what you think I have???? Is there a name for this?

Yes it is called ADD or ADHD, it is very common and is treatable with medication. The term stands for Attention Deficit Disorder, The H in ADHD is for Hyperactive. So if you speak to your doctor about his they should be able to diagnose you and medicate you properly.

I have had the same problem for many years. In fact when I took a hearing test the lady told me I had almost perfect hearing and I said "what" and she starting laughing and the truth was I didn't hear her. I always wondered if it had to do with hearing too much sound and not being able to separate speaking from background noise.

I think you might have ADD or ADHD. At least that's what it sounds like. Hope you figure everything out! :-)

i think these people are right you have adhd or maybe are just smoking to much weed!

Could be ADD. I know nothing about it. I know about selective hearing though.

Your brain records only what it deems necessary to complete the task, and or what it deems important. If your thoughts are more important than the message you're hearing, then your thoughts are favored. Ask yourself this question: Does it happen only at work, or everywhere? Find the source of the problem. Then figure out why it's happening, then find a solution.
