If obama lost, would he make a good VP?

Not just as a democrate, but maybe with a repulican. (i know crazy talk) Like if mcain said be my vp so i can get your votes on my side, help pass things through congress faster with your dem. friends and maybe keep me in check. Also when was the last time a Dem and rep. shared office though vp and president?

The only repulican that (i remember) asked a democrate, that made it into office was lincoln in his 2nd term with johnson. Nixon and ford tried if im not mistaken, but that failed. Was jut wondering if any one remembers a time when it happened again?

Many years ago, the person with the most votes became the President and the runner up became the Vice President. Don't know when this changed, but you would never see a Republican select a Democrat. And...I hope Clinton doesn't select him. A Clinton - Edwards ticket would be the winnable combination. I also think Obama's ego is too large to accept the running mate position.

Obama as VP of Hillary Clinton - they are unbeatable.

Is the election of the most powerful person in the world safe in the hands of the Americans?

I think he would make a wonderful VP, and it would give him the "experience" that he lacks so he can run a successful campaign in 8 years.

Clinton/Obama is a ticket that I would LOVE to see.

Obama will win.

From this point on, I think like he could win the next 6 primaries...and its only gonna get better.
I am about to send him another donation next week for $20. Power to the common man.

No. He wouldn't make a good pimple on a decent VP's posterior.

Vice President doesn't get to do all that much. The only real responsibility he's supposed to have is to break ties in the Senate. George Bush has given Dick Cheney that much power, but he isn't actually supposed to have that much.

So yes, Obama would be a good VP; mostly because it is very difficult to be a bad one (though Cheney has proven not impossible to be a bad one). As long as you can say yes or no to a bill when the Senate is locked, you should be able to handle the job. The VP is mainly supposed to be ready to take over quickly if the President dies or is incapacitated (unable to do the job anymore) in some way.

But if I were Obama I would not take the job. It could serve to help him win later, but I think being Senator would help him just as much. It could even hurt him if the President he serves under screws up; just like it hurt Al Gore in his presidential run being associated with Bill Clinton during his sex scandal. And if Obama fails to win the presidency on the next run he is in, he's got nowhere really to go.

If he were to stay a senator and failed a run, he could go back to being a senator. He would have more power now as a senator, he would be as much in the public eye as a senator as he would as a vice president, and he wouldn't be forever tied to the ups and downs of the President above him.

I believe that Clinton and Obama would be a hard team to beat, but it would be far worse for Obama if he took that route I believe. I believe the same would be true if he ran with McCain. His team would be unbeatable but Obama could lose very big by doing so.

If he does not win the primary, he should stay a senator. Maybe take the Supreme Court job if offered (as has been suggested by those in the Clinton camp if she wins), but that would mean he is practically out of the running altogether for President if he should take the Supreme Court job (provided it actually opens up for him).

Add-on:

As part of your question, you asked about the last time people from both parties ran together...

John Kerry asked John McCain to run with him in the 2004 election. John McCain declined, and John Kerry then asked John Edwards. But a Democrat did ask a Republican to run with him.

But aside from the one you mentioned (Lincoln and Johnson), I don't believe any pair who tried it ever won the election.

Hillary will win!

Yes, he would. But I don't think Hillary would choose him because she is an egomaniac and Obama is better than her. Lol.

But if McCain took up Obama that would be awesome. Lol. Personally, IF Hillary gets the nom (which is still a huge IF)... and she does NOT choose Barack as runningmate... you can count this dems vote on your side (assuming it is McCain).

I want a Democrat in the White House, but if my party is going to be assinignly stupid as to try to run Hillary in a general election... then maybe they deserve to lose in order to learn a lesson about what it takes to win a GENERAL ELECTION.

Again, I want a democrat but running Hillary would just be STUPID.

As for your question, I don't think that has ever happened. If McCain and Obama did it, they would have ALL my support. That would rock.

Obama is a leader not a followerer
