Is it weird that i have to share a mailbox with strangers?

i moved into a basement apartment recently. the guy who owns it doesnt live here, he owns the entire house and rents the top floor and main floor as seperate units to two other families that i don't know very well. all three parties have to share one mailbox. the mailbox is always full and it's annoying going through everything and sorting it. i worry too that some of my mail may be stolen since they are somewhat shady characters. would it really be that hard to add a mailbox? do you have to inform/ask the post office? couldn't you just do 90A, 90B, and 90C? i really don't want to get a p.o. box since it's far away.

You don't have to get a box at the post office, there are many private postal companies that rent boxes for very little money.

No way would I share a mail box with strangers! I would check to make sure that your landlord has the correct permits that allow him to rent his house as apartments. Each apartment should have their own mail box

Check with the postal authorities. I'm not sure a landlord has to provide a mailbox, but I know you don't have to share one. Mailboxes can be purchase for about $20.00. I'd buy one and it there are that many people living there I'd be buying one with a lock

Sounds like the guy has an illegal rental. By this I mean a home that is supposed to be single family and he has it split to a multi family. this is why there is only one mailing address and not split ones like you want (and there should be).

I'd never share a mailbox with strangers. Too many cases of stolen ID going on. All they need is a credit card offer from a bank in your name. sign it, send it in hen take the card when t comes.

Call, go see, email the Post Master General in your city. Report this. Ask if there can be three boxes as you have suggested with renters names on each box, or the A/B/C.

I don't now if you are familiar with this or not, but most apartments have mailboxes with locks. The boxes are all together in one area. The renters each have a key to their own box. The postman has a key that opens the box/boxes. In our neighborhood, all our addresses are the same, but our box is #7.

Your landlord is cheap. He could use separate mail boxes.

It is very weird. I went through the same thing about a year ago. There was only one small mailbox for 21 condos. I ended up having to get a P.O. Box because my neighbors started taking my mail (which caused alot of problems). I would definetly ask someone from the post office if you could put up your own mailbox.
