Where in your house do you do your ironing if you don't have a large enough laundry area or a spare bedroom?

We have a small 3-bedroom split-level "starter home". The walk-in level has a living room and a dine-in kitchen. The bottom level is a (half, by dint of the structure of the house) basement intended for use as a family room (which we use jointly as a studio and office). The unfinished sliver of the lowest level is where the washer and dryer and utilities are. There is no room in there for an ironing board.

Presently we do our clothes ironing in the spare bedroom, as there is hardly any furniture in there at this time. However, at some point that bedroom will no longer be a spare. ...Where will we then do our ironing?

I figure that I am not the only one whose house doesn't have an exclusive laundry room ample enough for an ironing board and who will/does not have a spare bedroom... If either you were in this situation or you know someone who was, please share!

Thanks in advance for your help!

Thanks, all! These were great answers and VERY helpful! I appreciate it... So hard to pick a "Best Answer", but I guess I'll have to... Know that I appreciate them all!

I understand, we have a tri-level that has a small laundry/half bathroom combo. I fold up my ironing board and store it next to the dryer and bring it out into the living room when I iron.

They do make ironing boards that have small little legs that go on a table top. I've seen people use them in their bedrooms on their beds. If you wanted to iron in the laundry area then consider one of these. You could set it on top of your dryer and iron there and then store it in the area between the dryer and a wall. Below is a link to one at Bed Bath and Beyond and it is only $9.99!!

living room

I set mine up in the kitchen, I am fortunate this year, we moved the washer and dryer up to the main floor.....no more climbing down to the basement.

I live in a one bedroom apartment and I do our ironing in the living room and then put all the supplies in the closet when I'm done.

When I lived in a tiny space, I would just break out the ironing board in the living room.

However, you could put an ironing board in a recessed cabinet in one of the rooms, or have one that is attached to the wall but flips up for ironing.

Here's a few ideas:

Yup, in living room or family room, once a week in front of the tv. Store the folded ironing board and iron wherever it can be squeezed in. I do have room in the laundry room, but who the heck wants to be in there alone forever with no entertainment.

There are ironing boards that fold out of the wall that might fit your laundry room.

When you do laundry, hang the clothes up as they come out of a spinning dryer; this will eliminate the need for a lot of the ironing. The items that need to be ironed would still go on hangers immediately. When you do iron, set up in front of the TV and enjoy yourself. The majority of items don't have to be ironed these days - if you are diligent about hanging them immediately.

Well, you could have the ironing board set up for the livingroom, so you can watch TV while ironing. Take care.

I do exactly the same as Sak, iron in the living room and watch tv :)

You can buy a ironing center that will slip and fold back up in the wall..here is an example, however pretty expensive here, but you can find them cheaper just do a little research..or even build your own...

I iron the end of my bed.

I like to pop in a DVD and set-up the ironing broad in the livingroom and take off. I do a lot of ironing at once.

When I'm done I keep the ironing board behind my bedroom door, wind up the cord to iron and set it on a shelf in my room.

I use a Tobi Steamer www.tobi-steamer.net

I am fortunate that I can use the steamer in almost any room. I prefer hanging the clothes on a shower rod while I steam.

Who irons these days!
