Everytime i connect my laptop to the office network, C & D drives are shared with a $ sign. how to stop this?

is there any way to stop this with a patch or by editing the registry?

You would need access to your log on script which executes when you connect your laptop
It sounds like the file access permissions are being setup there.
Your IT department would be the people to talk to.
They might have a few objections to your modifying their work on your own

patches or editing the registry will not help..

its actually pretty simple..

go into your network settings and select "do not allow file shareing"

OR

your network at work makes your computer visable to the entire network (admin settings) if you connect to it.

turn off file sharing

The $ sign means that the computer has the admin share enabled. Depending on your account privileges, you may not have the ability to disable this. If messing with this setting is against your company's computer policy, and this is a company laptop, I would also think again before attempting this.

With that being said:
1. Open My Computer
2. Right click your C (or D) drive, click properties.
3. Click on the Sharing tab
4. (I'm doing this from memory) Uncheck the box for share this volume.
