Should I quit my job or is it better to get layed off??? |
I have been working for the company for over a year and even though I am mostly quiet and always get my job done, I fear they might lay me off. The company has been going through management changes (micromanagement is being incorporated). Also, my department will no longer have our own office they are diving us and sending us to share offices with other departments. No one is really happy with those changes. I was expecting a yearly raise, instead my department got a 5 % decrease in pay. They already eliminated some positions within the company and I feel my position will be eliminated... Wait for them to lay you off. If you voluntarily leave the job now, you most likely will not be eligible for any unemployment insurance. However, what you should be doing now is updating your resume. You should also be shopping around for a new job. You may be surprised and find something better before everything goes crazy at your current employer. It's much better to get laid off, because even if you don't get a severance package, you will get to keep other benefits, like reduced insurance payments for health care. They may also grant you the last two weeks of paid "work" to job search. If you're a good worker, you probably won't get fired - so you won't carry that stigma if you get laid off. By not quitting, you can buy yourself some time to find something else, or at least sharpen your resume (which you might have neglected). If you get laid off instead, you can get unemployment while you're looking for your next job, and get discount health insurance - it won't be free or as cheap as what you have now but the portability act - HIPPA - requires that it be available to you. make them terminate you. If you quit you can not qualify for unemployment payments. Stick it out until you find something else or until they lay you off. If you quit you will not be eligible for unemployment. Start looking now for another job and get things moving for yourself. Hopefully you can find something else and then give your notice and leave with your head up and a clean slate with them. Wait until they lay you off. You're earning a steady one as we speak and they'll possible offer a severance package, although not required. You should just quit that job and tell your boss that hes a smeagle. Thats what I did when I worked at Mcdonalds for 25 years. you need to let them lay you off so you will qualify for unemployment . then you can take your time looking for a job ! if not you will have no job and no money ! this way you can stay home and have money every week !!!!!! |
