Is it legal to share Microsoft Office suite?

Hi everyone.

I just want to know whether it is legal to lend my Microsoft Office Suite to my friend. The name of it is "Microsoft Student and Home Edition - 2003". It has clearly stated in its cover that it has 3 licenses. I have used 2 and has 1 left. Is it legal to let my friend which lives in another area to install it to his computer?[Is it confined to my residential area only?]

If you have an extra license that is not in use, it should be OK from a legal perspective. However, licenses expire if they aren'r registered within a specific timeframe. You may have to contact Microsoft or the providing OEM if activation doesn't work.

Open Office is always an option.

if it has 3 licenses it can be installed on 3 pcs.
