I have an unbearable office mate. What can I do to make my job easier and my life happier?

I share my office with another girl, but she is unbearable. She is selfish, talkative, mean and she always tries to make me feel inferior to her, even though she has the same position as me. I always try to be nice to people, but she keeps having fun of me, telling me that I behave nicely to people because I am a weak person! She gets on my nerves all the time. What can I do, as I don't want to have a fight with her (that won't be a good idea for my job) but I don't want her to make me feel inferior!
Please help.
Thank you!

ok try this works for me every time... first purchase a box of strong chilli powder... carefully sprinkle it on the floor in a safe and dark place...say to said co worker ..wow have you ever seen a cat with 2 heads cos i swear to god there is one here come and see... notice her child like wide eyed wonder as he runs over to you...put out your foot as she dashes past...tripping her wide eyed and all into the chilli powder...while she is on the floor say **** you scared the cat...kneel down and ask her are you ok?..as she looks up to answer sneeze...thus blowing chilli into the bitches eye....not only will she not be able to find her way back to the office,,,,but she will always wonder of your sanity thus watching her mouth toward you in a kind of nervous fashion

Show her who is boss

Ignore her! Pay no attention to this person at all. This will eat at her and perhaps she will turn her attitude around. Don't even acknowledge her presence. She is not your boss, so there is no need to talk to her or have any type of work related relationship with her. Be the bigger person and walk away. Good luck!

you can make her feel that you are superior without having to fight with her. you have to give her attitude. don't let her push you around like that.

Oh please stand up for yourself, I think I like your co-worker!

Just wait until after work, take her into the darkest alley you can, and beat the living crap out of her.

It's a great idea for your job. If it happened out of office, it stays out of office.

...That's what I'd do. =/

Or, just assertively tell her to step the **** off. Bring vulgarity into it so she can see that there really is an angry side. Give her a little bit of what she wants to see, but still maintain your poise.

take her head on when she tries to make fun of u.
tell ur boss that u r not comfortable with her.

ignore her as much as possible.

Best Wishes.

Well... If u r prepared to fight with her then maybe use this statedgy, treat her the same way she treats u, it usually works,

Look at what you do - work out your strenghts and apply for prootions - not just with your work but with other companies as well. your boss will know your capabilities and will be aware of the other person's nature. The best way to put her in her place would be;

1. Become her boss
2. Get a better paying job

PROOF HER WRONG and win the battle... do not suck up to her and do not make her feel like you will eat the dirt she is throwing at you. Do you job and ja... Keep her out of your personal life for sure...

Uggh!
Slip some laxative in her coffee.

well depending which part of the world you live in? I'd say fill a anti- bullying workplace harrasment form seriously people wont stop the way they are unless you want them to. if its a joke between friends mmmm maybe but still if someone gives you a hard time at work which you shouldnt have because we all `have probelms of our own whereever we go. its up to you to have great day at work.

easy. kill her. lol

Flattering her all the time should give her something to think about.

Hello! I'm in a similar situation, so what I'm doing is totally ignoring this person, and they can't stand it..she is jealous of you because people like that you are a nice person. Remember what goes around, WILL come around. She'll get hers in the end. Either by being reprimanded by the boss or losing friends altogether. Kill her with kindness is another tactic you could use to..say nice things about her to her, show her compliments even if it hurts you to say them to her. Good luck!

Be as sweet as pie, but don't take any crap from her. When she won't shut up, say, "I'm so sorry! I would love to chat, but I just have a TON to do right now!" When she mocks you for being nice, say, "It's no harder to be friendly than to be nasty!" Do it all with a big smile.

And if things get worse, or are truly unbearable, you can talk to your supervisor.

That's a toughey. I would probably leave but before that...

What about getting some social time with her, maybe see what she's like, some people are all bluster and then after a drink or two their real self comes out. Maybe she's intimidated by you and over-reacting so maybe you can re-assure her about that.

Maybe she's just nasty and then if you're mentally tough do a shown-down and win! If not plan a - leave. Or bribe her - leave me alone and ille make you a cup tea/do the photocopying. Or you could be really sneaky and cry at the nearest HR person and say you are being bullied (which in a way you are). Get someone else to deal with it!

Good Luck

put her stapler in jelly

superglue her phone handset to the cradle and keep ringing her.

put toast in the CD drive of her computer

change her screen saver to some obscene pornography (with her head superimposed over the leading 'actress')

Order loads of those dirty video selection catalogues to her work adress

change the Signature on her e-mails to:
