How to convince my boss I need an office?

Currently, I am working in a noisy hallway. We will be adding in more staff and I want to work in an adjacent office. The boss wants to put a part-time worker in that office. Any suggestions? I will discuss sharing the office. Any other suggestions? Thank you.

Ask to have a meeting and ask why so much preference is being given to someone who will not even be using the office full time. That is quite a waste of office space!! (Stress this..."waste" is an evil word in most well run offices). Darn right you should be pushing to get the office to yourself or sharing it!

tell him/her that you work best in a quiet environment.. also convince him that you've been doing a real good job lately and that you could use the office... but only if you've been doing a good job lately. don't ask if you're a lazy worker.

First determine how a noisy environment affects your productivity, next try envision how the lost productivity could be gained back in terms of numbers, then present a memo, letter, proposal or short presentation on how it will overall benefit the office.

If the part-time worker has a higher position than you, you may be out of luck even if you're full time. However, make a list of valid reasons why you'd be more productive in an office and what specifically about being in the hallway is hindering you and make a formal request to be moved into the office. The more neat and professional your request is, and the more you stick to job-related facts rather than personal inconveniences, the better your chance will be.

The best thing you can do right now to get your way with your boss is to always be the best employee possible. Show up early, get all your work done, make the most use of your time at work, become a model employee. Then, you will become so valuable that they will be ready to give you an office and a raise!!
