Suggest good PROXY SOFTWARE to share & SECURE my office.?

suggest good PROXY SOFTWARE . i have 9 computers in my office. .
I am now using analogx ....but i cannot define rules for individual networked computers !!

...My budget is tight. Any thing FREE ??

i am trying lot of proxy to try them....but getting port 80 in use ?! how do i know which program is using it and how to give proxy access to port 80??? thanks

First you need to explain whether you really want a proxy or a firewall.

A firewall protects your network from external attacks and it also let you configure some rules which permit or deny access to particular resources for internal users

A proxy may have similar rules to allow or deny access to external resources. But a proxy does not protect your network from external attacks or intrusions etc. The main purpose of a proxy is for internet connection sharing. It lets your office users on your local network, access internet

As far as the needs for either of the 2 are concerned, I assume you do not need proxy as almost all versions of Windows from 98 to Windows Vista, have in-built internet connection sharing feature.

For the purpose of securing your local network, you can buy either hardware or software firewall like Cisco, McAfee, Norton Internet Security and many others are available in the market.

The best Firewall solution I would recommend is IPSec. If you know how to configure it, you can do that on your own. You will find it the most reliable as it blocks un-authorised access just silently without any prompt.

If at any stage, you need to check which program is using which port, you can simply type in the following command at the "Command prompt":

netstat -na

To view the results for every second, you can use

netstat -na 1
where "1" is the interval in seconds

On Windows XP or higher, you can also use and additional parameter "o" which displays the process name accessing any port. The command would be as follows:

netstat -nao
