Cover letter - who to address it to?

I am submitting a resume/cover letter to a consulting firm for a summer internship. I don't believe the deadline is until December, but I have a personal friend at the firm who said to just send my the resume/cover letter now directly to him and he will give it to the recruiter (they share an office). Who should I address the cover letter to - him or the recruiter?

I am sending electronically....

In your greeting, use the recruiter's name. On the envelope, address it to the company and write "care of (your friend's name)" underneath the company name. Kudos to you for acting early! Good luck.

This is not a great answer, but thanks. I need to send it to the recruiter, not my friend, and as i stated, I am submitting electronically. Report It

Just put: To Whom It May Concern: This should cover it! Good Luck!

Ask your friend the recruiter's name and send it directly to the recruiter.
