Etiquette on gift giving for the holidays.?

Here is my problem I work in an large office, I share a small room with another woman, whom I can't stand. She is much older than I am and I just don't get along with her. For Christmas I plan to give most people a gift, but I don't want to get her anything. Is this rude? What is the etiqutte on this type of thing. I know she isn't going to give me anything either. I'd rather spend my money on someone I really care about than her. Please don't judge me, I am a really nice person, I just don't want to spend money on her.

btw....we have only worked together for about 7 months.

Gift giving is never an obligation, even on common gift-giving occasions, like Christmas and weddings. It is generous but never required. (Miss Manners has said this over and over)

I'd say don't give a gift if you don't really want to, but be discreet about giving gifts to others in front of her.

You aren't obligated to give her anything not even a card. She is neither friend nor family. Although, she is a coworker she isn't assigned to you as a person for a secret santa arrangement. However, you would be a much bigger person than her if you let the holiday spirit move you to at least give her a token chocolate sampler and a card. The chocolate cost less than a dollar or so.

Actually giving her somthing if you know she isn't going to give you anything would make you look like the bigger person. Get her something silly like a pair of christmas socks or a card that says Wal-mart gave out these coupons for personalaties, you should use it. lol somebody did that to me one year as ajoke.

In my opinion, no this is not rude you are entitled to give to whom you please. You dont have to give a gift to her just because the two of you share the same office. This is your hard earned money and if you choose not to spend it on her then don't.

Then don't give her any gifts. But don't rub it in her face when giving to the others. Do it behind her back.
