Can I claim tax exemption for Rented House?

I've recently taken home loan to purchase an Independent house. Since this home is located far from my office, I stay in shared apartment with my friends located near to my office. Now I'm paying rent for this shared apartment and EMI for home loan. I would like to know is there any provision to claim tax exemption for both the expenditure?

No you can not

You have choosing to live in two places out of cost to go to and from work. One co habitat share expense with the other.

Not out of investment reasons. One to rent to make profit. The other to live at.

you can avail tax exemtion on your home loan EMI that your paying( exemtion is actually on the interest that you pay annually)
you cannot claim tax exemtion on rent at the same time.
I would suggest that you talk to your company finance helpdesk. and my recomendation is that you better go for home loan tax ecemtion as on HRA you only get 33 percent of your basic which may be less than your tax exemtion amount from home loan.
