I cannot open MS Word from my office computer?

When I open it they say "Windows cannot access the specified device, path or file. You may not have the appropriate permissions to access the item."

Please note that this computer is on a LAN and I have already tried to uninstall and re-install MS OFFICE to make it work, but it says I don't have any permission to do so.

Other Office applications like Excel, Powerpoint etc. are also not opening, I have even tried to open the MS Office installed in our server through sharing. However, that Word opens but I am not allowed to type, open, save, make new document, or anything at all.

Please let me know soon what to do and if I have to modify settings from the server computer, also tell me how to do that because all of us at the office don't really know what to do.

actually my company is quite new and there are only 5-6 people included in the overall management of the company. I think out of all these, I am the only one who really knows about networking and computer tools that much... I think these people had some outsider invited to set up the LAN in the office but that person is not available now because everytime I ask about him they say we cannot call him here... If anyone of you know, please tell me what will I have to do from the SERVER computer because I have access to that computer physically also.

Sounds like you do not have enough user privileges. Contact your system admin or manager.

It sounds like someone may have installed a copy of MS Office on the LAN instead of on the individual computers that are hooked to the LAN. If you have the original program disks, you can install on the individual computers, and then your office group can share files they create with MS Office via the LAN. You will also have to watch the number of licenses your office has purchased, given that you could have several individuals using the same application simultaneously. You will likely have to purchase separate licenses, but that is a separate matter. I am a little surprised that you do not have someone that is the LAN System Manager that can help you with that. It means the Word application is corrupted. You cannot reload the CD only because you may not have the privileges needed to add programs.

You need to contact your helpdesk and let them know you are having a problem. They will either be able to fix it remotely (as many corporation do today), or they will send someone with Admin rights to correct the problem.
