Set up a network?

What would be needed to set-up a network of 20 computers for a small office where files can printers can be shared from individual users accounts which can be accessed from any computer? Also I need access to the Internet from them.

I would say:

- 24 port ethernet switch
- small business server which can do file/print sharing and DHCP/DNS, like Microsoft's SBS or, if you know how to set it up, a linux server.
- internet connection (business DSL, static IP)

So i hope you are not the company's computer guy. But this is what I would do.
Draw out your network!
Get a wireless router that will support up to 25 users, why 25 and not 20, because things change, make sure you have wireless computers and printers that will be able to connect to your router, from there just add each one at a time to make sure you don't run into any problems.

materials u need:

1. a network hub (24 port)
2. LAN cable (for each computer to connect to the hub)
3. external modem
4. network card (for each pc's)
5. of course, most of all is the service provider..lol!

here's the know-how:

1. get all the 21 LAN cables (properly crimped) connected the network hub.

2. insert the other end of each 20 cables to the 20 computers, and 1 of them insert to the external modem (for internet connection).

3. as all cables properly inserted, turn on the computers, printers, and external modems, and the hub..

4. assign each a name (ex..com1, com2, etc..as you wish them to be, but putting numbers much be excellent..for it is better way to remember the most) the next step will show you how.

5. do the LAN set-up (wish you all having the XP os, it is more easier to do with xp) click START, then PROGRAMS-- ACCESSORIES-- COMMUNICATIONS-- (wish you are following nicely, or better copy this first before doing the procedure)

6. in COMMUNICATIONS choose NETWORK SETUP WIZARD..
--a pop-up box will appear "Welcome to the Network Setup Wizard"...just click NEXT
--then "before you continue..." just click NEXT
--then "Give this computer a description and name." (you can leave the description blank, but not without a name..now decide what name you are to put each differently (com1, com2, or whatever..) click NEXT
--then the setup wizard will ask for a name for your network.. you can name it after you, your business or anything. normally, it's default workgroup name you will see is MSHOME, change it for a distinction..click NEXT
--now, "file and printer sharing" TURN IT ON..(just read it how, ok) click NEXT,
--now "ready to apply network settings" click NEXT..then wait a moment..
--"you're almost done", choose the last choice (the 4th, i think)- JUST FINISH THE WIZARD...

Do the same with the other computers..if it ask you to restart, do it..if not, wait till all of them were done. restart one after another--spontaneously..after that look at the "network places" and you will see all the 20 networked computers.

this is all u need, but please...be sure that all the lan card for each pc is properly installed (or a defective lan card will not be seen in the workplace)
