Does ERP software have to be personal-tailored?

Hi,

Does ERP software have to be personal-tailored, or can be shared by companies in diffrernt industries, like MS OFFICE?

I often heard ERP software needs to fit into the operation process of the company. Does this mean ERP software have to be personal-tailored, at least for different industries?

Not necessarily, some ERP can be used by companies in various industries (e.g., SAP, Oracle). But several modules in an ERP may not be applicable to a certain industry (e.g. Inventory and Warehousing for a service company).

Customization are performed if a company want's a specific function that is not included in the softwared but this can be very expensive and complicated.
