Network Computer Question?

I brought my laptop to work today. I can connect to my office's wireless internet connection, but I don't know how to access my work or add the office printer to my laptop. We have a shared drive on the server where we all save our work. How do access it and then print it on a network printer?

change your IP

maybe the accesspoint you have is wep or wap protected, ask your office adminstator for the key,.. no office is alowed to use unprotected wlan,.. since it dangerous and other ppl could steal you data

you can go to My network places and double click on the domain(if u have a domain in the company), or
go to start>run>\\computer name which has shared drive

printer
go to start>settings>printers
click on file and then select add printer, find the desired printer and right click on it and install the printer

you have to make sure that all the wireless settings on your laptop are the same as the router. you need to enable file and printer sharing on your laptop. go to control panel, windows firewall, exceptions, enable upnp framework and file and printer sharing. then go to the network setup wizzard and configure it with your works network settings.

Well It depends.

If you have a network printer, those things work without computer conection to the network (that's why they call it that way), you just need to install the printer driver, and in some point, requests for the IP address of the printer (you must specify that is a network printer to do that) and the rest is history.

Instead, if you have a printer connected to the network through a computer, you must configure that computer in order to share the printer to other computers (Printer properties --> share -on Windows XP-) and then use the printer driver on your computer and install it then you must specify the shared resource created before.

I hope it'll help

Good luck

If your office is set up with a Domain network, you are never going to gain access to any resources within the network without first authenticating to the Domain. The only way that is going to happen is if someone with the correct credentials joins your computer to the network. That, and only that, will allow you access to resources which you yourself have permissions to use. As far as the WiFi, that is strictly an Internet connection which has nothing to do with your Permissions within your LAN.

It depends. I know at our work place, the wireless router and the main company switches/routers are on two separate networks - so in our case, you simply can't. Most larger companies take this route for security reasons. However, if this is not the case, find IP addresses or host names of the server with the shared drive and the network printer.

You can map a drive from DOS with the following command
net use x: \\server\sharedfolder

When you go to add the printer, tell it you want to add it as a local printer (yes, I know it's on a network) and specify the port as IP_xxx.xxx.xxx.xxx where xxx.xxx.xxx.xxx is the IP address of the network printer.
