Remote desktop issue, need help before I go mad?

Connecting from home and having an issue connecting to one PC in particular. I have managed to connect one so not really sure why it stopped?
I can connect to it via remote desktop when in the office but as soon as try from home always fails.
I also have a problem with shared workgroup on this PC as well so not sure if the two things are connected, have double checked the settings for sharing as well.?
PC is Running Windows XP Pro SP2

I have checked and rechecked the following:

Port is fowarding
Remote desktop is checked on
Firewall execption is correct
Changed the port number in the registry

If you leave an answer try to check back and I will try to add further details.

Best answer and eternal grattitude to the person who cures this!!

I can connect to other PCs from Home to office but not this one.
I run the IT from our office due to a small budget!

You said you can connect to the computer from the office...but then when you try to make the connection in reverse you get problems...(connecting from home to office).

Your office may allow outgoing VPN connections but block incomming ones. May be something to ask who ever runs the network at your office.

Mike,
Small tip, save yourself some hassle... Dameware. Fantastic piece of kit and not hugely expensive.

Other than that, have you checked to see all the required services are running? Are the workstations connected to a server or are they merely peer-to-peer and you have them all on a different remote desktop port so that you may access them individually? Have you set the firewall exception to the correct port? you may need to add a new exception for that port.
Is the username you are tryingto access through set-up for terminal services/remote desktop access?

Check all the IP settings in the connection properties.

And lastly, is the router a normal ADSL router or does it have VPN capabilities? If it has VPN capabilities, you should be able to log on to the router and create a virtual private network that effectively has your home PC connected to the network as if it was actually in the office.
