Is it rude for to announce somebody-else's engagement?

My supervisor sent an email around to everyone in the office anouncing that another attorney got engaged this weekend. I feel like that is info for the groom-to-be to announce. I feel like my supervisor is trying to steal some of the spot light in a strange way.

Am I just over thinking this or does it seem rude?

I know if I shared with a colleague that I was engaged, I wouldn't want he or she to tell the whole office -- I would like to be the one, if I wanted everyone to know.

I highly doubt the groom-to-be requested it be announces considering he is in a different office and he just seems like an informal type of person -- he would tell everyone personally, mass emailing just is not his style.

If this is done without the bride and groom's consent, yes, this is incredibly rude.

However, if the groom asked him to do this, then it's okay.

It depends on the person's personality, If he or she believes that it is rude, then yes, its rude to them. If the groom didn't want that to be announced, then he would believe it to be rude.

Perhaps the supevisor was asked to share this info. If not, it was rude.

The coworker may have asked the supervisor to announce it. They may have thought it was inappropriate to send their own office wide email, so they left it up to the supervisor. It's not that big a deal if THEY aren't upset about it! When you get engaged, you can tell your supervisor that you want to make your own announcement.

should have sent the email not the supervisor or told whom he wanted to tell. The supervisor should apologize for his lack of etiquette and big mouth.
