Everyone at the office got a gift but me.?

A co-worker gave everyone a nice tin of cookies and a card at my office today for the Holidays but I was not included. We have always been very friendly toward each other, laughing and sharing lifes stories so I don't know if he is upset with me.

I'm feeling embarrassed and several people came to me to say they were giving their cookies back to him at the end of the day. I told them not to do that, he has his reason. I will never say anything to him about it and I am trying to conduct business as usual but I feel so sad.

Your question made me think. I am now wondering how I would react if I was in your position. I would hope that I would handle it they way you stated in your question.

Keep a stiff upper lip. Remember we can only be responsible for our actions and our lives and if this is the way your co-worker chooses to be then you can only allow him to be the way he is. Perhaps giving him a present would make you feel better.

It was a he... well here's what happened. His wife decided to make cookies for everyone in the office and she asked him how many people do you work with... he said one less (cause they do that) and he had to pick one person. Are you the newest, youngest, maybe the lest of his closest co-workers. Were you not around when he was passing them out... it's got to be something lame like that.

Nothing to worry about... but I know how you feel. Sorry about that, that sucks!!!!

What a bummer! Try not to think about it for the time being. Maybe he will give you an explanation later. It sounds like a lot of people are offended on your behalf; maybe someone already said something to him.

I totally believe it was an oversight. He had a certain amount of gifts and thought he gave em out to everyone, including you. I kind of did that last year when my hubby did the Santa thing for the family. I got silly gifts for all the adult, but for some reason forgot my only daughter! ...definitely an oversight!

If you are normally very friendly I would like to think this was just a complete oversight on his part and there was no malice or rudeness intended. Wait until tomorrow because he will have found out about this from the other people at work and probably feels absolutely horrible about it and will probably come in with a tin of cookies from you and apologize profusely for the oversight.. If by chance he doesn't say anything about his leaving you out then you are doing the right thing by not saying anything and conducting business as usual.

It could be something as simple as him not counting correctly. Things like that happen, but it also won't hurt to maybe ask him about it. It's a lot better to confront and get your feelings out there, no matter the outcome, than to hold them in and have him wonder down the road what's wrong with you.

Hey, one good thing you've learned is you know how it feels when someone is left out and this can help you become a great giver in the future!

You should just press on as if nothing happened. You might never find out the reason and should stop discussion of it right away.

Try not to take it personally. He may have a reason that he believes to be valid even if his behavior is rude.

I heard a rule once: Never attribute to malice what could be just plain stupidity. I vote in the "he can't count" side.

It wouldn't hurt for someone who is friendly to both you and the cookie guy to sidle up to him and ask why you didn't get anything. Just to be sure.

He is trying to tell you he doesn't like you inspite of the friendly facade. Do unto him as he does unto you. Don't be so nice to him anymore.
