XP Pro to XP Pro VPN Connection with Network Shares?

My office network is using a router that has VPN passthrough enabled, and is assigning machines on the network IP addresses via DHCP. I successfully set up an incoming VPN server on one machine that is set up with a static IP of 192.168.2.200. This machine is set to assign addresses in the range of 192.168.2.201 - .210.

I opened ports 1723 and 500 on the router to allow for VPN

My home computer is assigned an IP via DHCP and I successfully set up the Windows XP VPN Client to establish a connection to my office machine.

When looking at ipconfig, my home computer has the wireless adapter configured to 192.168.1.10 and the PPP connection has an IP of 192.168.2.201. I would think at this point I could ping the .200 machine but I am not able to. I would also think that I could see the shares set up on the .200 machine but I can not browse to them via .200\share.

If anybody has a solution to making my home computer a node on the 192.168.2.0 network, please let me know.

Thanks for answering this for me. To be specific it was Microsoft OneCare that was causing the problem on the "server". Even though VPN connections were allowed in OneCare, FileSharing was not.

Well - in fact it all of this should work in very specific ways. The only things left to check out are ...

is the mask the same on both (the PPP connection that is), and ...

is the firewall turned on at the target machine - if so - you won't be able to do anything to it.

When you are in the office, are you also on that same network. If so, can you ping and see those shares you are looking for ?

As to VPN "browsing" ... you should be able to open the share via the "map network drive" function (right click on My Network Places), but because you are on a TCP/IP VPN, not on the "Microsoft netbios" network, you won't be able to "browse".
