Can someone help me those questions about networking design?

1. You consult for a Hospital where security of Data is of utmost importance.
You have been asked to create a network that allows the radiology department to collect
information from some their test equipment and share video of procedures with the
children鈥檚 hospital about 1 mile down the road. What would you design for this

2. You are working for a large company with offices in Orlando, Denver and
Seattle. They need a network where each geographic location is in control of their own
network but data is exchanged between the locations constantly. The data is not
extremely sensitive and Budget is a consideration. What would you design for this?

3. You work for a company that has numerous legacy systems. There is a
mainframe that needs to be connected to several terminals that are all of different ages
and speeds. There is also a local area network that needs to talk to the mainframe and
to the Internet. What would you design?

Hello~thank you for your answers. I really appreciate.
Can you help me add more information on those answers? 'Cause I need to write one of three questions for my assignment which requires half page (no more than space an 1/2 between lines!)

Here is what my teacher said for doing this assignment.

Since everything cannot be stated for each scenario, you may make some assumptions. Please indicate any assumptions you are using to make your decisions. Tell what you will do and why.

Again, thank you for your help

1. HIPAA rules are in effect for Patient information so I would also look at encrypting the data for collection beyond the obvious VPN. The weakest point of any VPN is at the entrance and exit points of the Tunnel. Lock those down with an awesome hardware based firewall. You can also just create a seperate VLAN of your Network for this purpose and a seperate Video over IP, again using an AES HIPAA compliant standard of encryption and locking both ends down on a seperate VLAN. Make sure you use a Dedicated T-1 not connected to the internet for this transfer.

2. Just your average WAN set up with a VPN. Use the Hardware based firewall for the encryption and VPN. You can control all remote servers and clients from a single location while allowing your local branches in each city to connect to their local servers as well as an HQ Server using their local internet.

3. Easiest of all, Terminal Services. Since you didn't mention money, I would use Citrix. Citrix uses a very small portion of bandwidth and resources on the local client while connecting to beefy Application and file (Maxed out)server. Many of the Enterprise Companies and local muni's as well as the libraries here use this software application. Citrix is expensive and you get what you pay for when using this application.

1. With the new medical security laws in place, it's very important to have a very secure network for patient data. Therefore, you will want to make sure that any data that passes over an extranet is sent encrypted. As for the video feeds, I would simply send that over the standard tcp/ip protocol of the internet.

For a higher level of security, I would burn the data onto a DVD and hand carry it one mile to the other hospital and forget about the network to pass data.

2. Not sure what you're looking for here. Standard network design seems to cover this situation.

3. Most mainframe terminals communicated to the cpu by means of coax cable run throughout the building(s). The LAN sounds like a basic lan.

Again, not sure what you are looking for as far as an answer is concerned. Most network design courses would cover this. Doesn't seem to by anything tricky here.
