Advice on choosing a laptop please! I'm getting so confused.?

All I want is to have a laptop that I can use the usual office apps, store some mp3's and pictores and do the odd bit of picture editing. I don't really want to go over 拢500.

Is 256mb shared graphic memory enough, is 224 with 32 dedicated better?

Is 553 mhz DDR FSB fast enough?

the Lenovo 3000 looks good so far as does the Sony Vaio N38 but I'm really confused.

I don't mind upgrading the RAM if there is a good deal but I think I need a minimum 1GB.

Is Vista as bad as all the old press? Is it really worth downgrading to XP even though it won't be supported soon?

i bought a laptop a couple of weeks ago from a shop called Staples an office equipment kind of shop. it cost me 拢299 and it has 446 ram and 1.86 ghz and 60 gb drive . it comes with works, an email program, wifi, you can connect to the internet throught ethernet cable too. it runs quite fast and is ideal for office stuff etc, music and photos. it is an amilo li 1705 and i found it is an all round economy laptop

just get a Mac

i think you are wrong about xp not being supported. i would think that as vista is selling so badly and xp still selling so well i think they will support it for at least 2/3 more years. as for choosing a laptop sorry I'm in the same boat as you!

For what you gave above,i think you want to use it for multimedia purpose and MAC is the best. They recently made a new OS's which is MAC OS X 10.5(LEOPARD).Winsows Vista was made from MAC OS X 10.0 so it's a downgrade OS.Visit apple.com/getamac and apple.com/newtomac

you want the fasts and the most ram you can afford
