I'm ordering a laptop from hp after a year of saving, but is this a good one for me?

I found a hp, it has a 14.1 inch screen(1280X800), 2GB ram and a c2d 2.0ghz with 160gb hdd. the graphic s a geforce 8400 GS(128mb dedicated and up to 768mb shared).

I'm a student and I'm mostly into learning computer programming and work with some pictures and small video files, and maybe create some flash videos/games and work with office. I'm not going to do any kind of gaming on this one.

The price is around 1700 US$.

It comes with Vista home premium

I am on my second HP laptop and they are very good, people will often bag out HP for their lack of good customer service. But I have never needed to contact them anyway. The best thing about the laptop you have described is that it has dedicated graphics and thus it will not eat into your ram. Also 14.1 is a good size, portable but with a good viewing size. regards

What operating system does it have?

Vista EATS laptops. Id personally recommend a desktop. You could get an awesome desktop with that price budget.

Yes, that is very good for you.

Vista may be a memory eater, but with 2gb ram, Vista will choke on it. And you can always upgrade if you want.

Anyways, that is one sweet laptop. The GeForce 8400 GS will do whatever you throw at it, videos, pictures, flash, and anything else.

You may want to consider getting a laptop with a bigger screen. Usually this means more bulk and weight, however it also means programming, debugging and using programming IDEs is much easier.

Other than that, I would say the other consideration is actually go out and touch the laptop. Diffferent laptops have different feelings, so along with specs, you also need that special feeling.

I got one with better specs from Toshiba, for less. 350 dollars less.
