Don't you just hate bosses who don't do their fair share of the work?

I have a manager who hardly does anything to help us out, even when it's really busy. He's actually hardly at work at all, and when he is there, he spends most of his time in the office sitting on his butt. The managers who preceded him always did their fair share of the work and helped us when we needed it. He's also arrogant and unapproachable.

I agree, however, I would rather have that kind of boss than one who tries to run things and has no knowledge of what they are doing. I hate the pretense of someone who is in charge of an area that they are not familiar with and tries to do things that do not make any sense otherwise. As a supervisor I have no problem doing "grunt work" if it needs to be done. A little work never killed anyone. Besides, I think it is good for morale.

I hate that. I say, off with his head!

I've had a few of those in my time. And unfortunatly, there's not much you can do. That person is the manager. I handled it by doing my best at my job, and keeping any documentation I could that would cover my butt in case there were difficulties. Other than that, you just have to deal with it, or find another job. Eventually the manager who does no work will be gone. (Unless it's a friends & family thing - and then you've no recourse but to leave). Good luck!

Him sitting on his butt in the office is him probably trying to do the paperwork that is needed to done so that you can get your paycheck. Every manager has their own style of leadership in any type of business, the manager is hired to manage the store, not do the tasks that you were hired to perform.
