Best bet for a newborn kitten?

i'm taking care of an abandoned new born kitten. it is about 2 days old.

my father doesnt want to spend 50-200$ at a vet on a cat that isnt even ours. he is stubborn when it comes to cats in general, is there any place that may be cheap in arizona or phoenix or animal hospitals that may either take the kitten or may not charge us so much just to look at it?

i am trying my best, i have raised a kitten before but it was with the aid of my mother.

and its been years since then, please

help me with some advice. if u have worked at a vetinary office or have had similar problems please share your wisdom!

ANASAZI ANIMAL HOSPITAL (anasazivet.com) THEY ALLOW PAYMENTS. I left other answers for you as well.

well for starters to have to buy special formula because its not healthy to give it regular milk and you have to be a special bottle for it to feed out of and juss keep it clean i know this cuz ive had many kittens

The cat probably doesnt even have anything. I have a cat and its never had any shots. She is fine. With your kitten being a newborn, the odds are alot greater that its ok.

call your local vets office, and most of them depending on your situation, will help you out.

Call your local spca, animal control or a vet to see if there is a possible adoptive cat parent around. We had just kept 2 abandoned kits alive for 4 days with lots of feedings and a warm water bottle under a towel in a box when we located a cat whose kittens were malformed and had died after a day. She was really happy to adopt them and they are thriving.

Newborn, huh? hmm. Go to the pet store, and ask for a formula to feed it. Tell them what for, they should have good information for you. And keep it close to you, as often as you can. Um, if you have to go to school, and leave it alone, it might not live until you get back. Find it a place to stay if you're not there with it.

Now, the closest I've been to that is when I raised a couple baby squirrels, so I think it's safe to say it's a lot different, but they were about the same size as that kitten.

If you can't get a vet's advice here, I'd say try the pet store.

10 yrs ago i brought up a kitten which we found in the entry, was about 3 days old and couldnt afford vets bills. at the time my son was born and i brought both of them up on cow and gate plus and my kitten is still with us. as well as keeping him warm in a box with old blankets and a cuddly toy he done fine. at a bout 4 months i weaned him on to kitten food try it. it worked for my cat.

Most vets give free kitten exams and they may even take care of the cat. Feed the cat with a bottle with milk or special formula. A phone call to the vet is free. Just do your best to help the kitty-that is all you can do. Just make sure that the kitty is somewhere where it can be loved. You sound like a nice person, just try to get the sensitive side of your dad to come out so you can get this kitty healthy. Good Luck.....

Its not too hard, ive been there tonnes of times, you need to buy a lil powdered formula called mammelac, vets havet it and its 20 dolalrs, get a tiny baby bottle ot a syringe and feed it every 2 hours. Later on you mix soft food with the mammalac and then they eat harder food. You should get one of those lil heating pads that are heatable in the microwave, throw a towel over it and put baby on top, keep it in a small box, enought to move around in. When u feed it, touch its paws and pet it so it gets use to human interaction. You also need to wet a paper towel or toilet paper and wipe its lil bum, its too young to poop or pee on its own and make sure you clean the area well when done, their poop is like toothepaste :}

Any questions email me at mewmix@shaw.ca
I can help u throught this. Also beware of the spca's in your area, lots of places say they will take it in and kill it when you leave because they claim to be overstaffed!

I've actually done this a couple times with really sick kittens. Does the kitten you have already have health problems or are you just struggling to feed it and such? You can purchase artificial cat鈥檚 milk at a pet store. I actually bought mine at a grocery store. Get a bottle like a nose dropper and feed the kitten that way. Clean the kitten with a warm damp cloth, just as his mother would. You have to 鈥榢itten proof鈥?your house and make sure it鈥檚 not dangerous for the kitten when it starts to walk around. Put the kitten in a small container like a shoebox with towels (or whatever size box it can be comfortable in).

Here are some websites that you may fine useful:

Try the humane society or a pet foster home. My cat had lived in a foster home for pets, until I adopted him trhough the humane society. Or you could run an ad in the news paper. My parents did that once, years ago, when a previous other cat gave birth. Got lots of response.

I have! :) email me for more info, but ill be quick here.

Go to the humane society in your area. They can do a little check up and if you dont want her, they may have a list of foster care people.

Why didnt she get to stay with the mother?

Now, go to Walmart, into the cat section. They should have a tub of kitten formula for about 8$. With a little kitten eating from a bottle on it. Get that and a couple bottles.

Feed every 2 hours or when she cries. THIS IS THE MOST IMPORTANT - *** after eating, you need to damped a cloth or toilet paper and gently rub the kittens bottom (anus) until she goes to the bathroom.

As babies, mama cats will lick their butts to help them to poo. Without this help, they wont poo and will die from septic shock. You MUST do this every couple hours, and its not as gross as it sounds.

Most of all, use common sense. If she looks sick or unhealthy or too bloated, get her back to the humane society ASAP.

heres a great website - http://www.feralcat.com/raising.html

Please feel free to email me with questions, im actually a pro at this.

OH I LOVE DOING THIS!! If you were anywher near me I would drive over and take it off your hands right now! Here are some things you will need: a kitten nursing bottle, its very small and you can find it at wal mart probably. Some kitten replacer, also found at wal mart or local feed store. We have "feed stores" in Texas because everyone owns some kind of animal, i don't know what they're called where your from. DO NOT give your kitten regular cows milk! Kittens, even grown cats, can not digest the protiens in cows milk and for kittens it will give them severe diareah and it will die very soon. Get some cheap rags or washcloths, you will need to rub your baby's bottom gently with one of these after he eats to stimulate him to use the restroom-both pee and poop. Yes, it's gross but you have to do it. Get the cloth slightly wet with warm water, it will work better. Feed him every two or three hours and he should do great. There is no need to take him to the vet so young, they do not need any shots or anything untill around 6 weeks. All this should only set you back around $30.00 or so, the most expensive thing will be the milk replacer. Good luck!
