Which server computer do i need to look into? |
I haven鈥檛 worked with server computers, and i don鈥檛 know what to look in to, w/c now i have to identify one for office use. The case is, its suppose to support about 26 to 30 computers in Publishing office , where there is a lot of data sharing a daily basis among - about twelve departments. It's just a file share, correct? There's not multiple people logging onto it at the same time, just accessing it's files? If yes, I'd suggest a linux box running free NAS, no point spending extra on a windows server machine. here's a link to the file share program: http://www.freenas.org/ computers are worthless For a suitable recommendation, much more detail of the organization and it's existing and planned hardware/software resources would be necessary (eg. platform if particularly req'd for some reason [in most cases I suggest Linux], req'd disk space, backup strategies, services to be provided by the server, network topology, etc.), and I don't bother spec'ing particular hardware unless I'm getting paid to. If you want a proper server for a publishing office you should be looking towards an Xserve from Apple |
