Does one computer on my network need to be running Windows XP professional for file sharing?

In a small office with multiple Windows XP computers in a LAN, does one computer need to be running Windows XP professional for simple file sharing?

WindowsXP Pro isn't required to share files on a network.

File sharing can indeed be used in a mixed mode environment.

Here's How:
1.) Log on to the computer that contains the resource that you want to share.

2.) Browse to the directory or resource, right-click the resouce's icon and select "Share" from the menu that appears.

3.) Be sure to include a description and unique name for the newly created share. It will make locating the proper shared resource from another computer on the network an easy task.

Just one computor running any form of windows xp should do it! I used to run a two computor network,1 with xp home and 1 with 98se and file sharing was no problem!!

No, you can share files between Windows XP Home computers or 2000, ME, 98 computers also.

You main thing XP Professional has that Home does not have is the ability to login to a Windows domain. To have a domain, you need to have a Windows Server.

If you don't have a Windows Server, you can share folders between PCs by using a workgroup.
