Should the U.S. abolish the Constitutional amendment which place term limits on the Office of the Presidency? |
If the United States has a Constitutional amendment which abolishes the term limit of the Office of the Presidency, President Bush could run for a third term (think of FDR). If we keep the amendment in tact, however, President Bush is forbidden to run for a third term. This would include former Presidents Carter, Bush, and Clinton as well. Also, do you think that it was right or wrong barring a former President the right to run for a non-consecutive term (think of Grover Clevland)? Please share your opinion. I have to pick a side on the debate. Thank you in advance. :) We have no such limit in the UK hence we had Margaret Thatcher for 11 years (or so) and Tony Blair for 10 yrs (this was equivalent to 3 terms and terms can run for 5 years but generally elections are held after 4). Thatcher was kicked out by her own party and Blair nearly was - basically, the public got sick of them and their parties knew they had turned from being assets to liabilities. NO. No, it would open the way for someone like Huge-ego Chavez. More term limits, not less Yes and I think we should repeal the 19th amendment! I think that perhaps the delicate balance of the Constitution has been somewhat disturbed by term-limiting presidents, since we didn not term-limit the Congress and the judges at the same time. No. Political administrations usually fall deeply into corruption in their third term. Happens to Govenors and Mayors quite frequently. NO! Bush has already rigged 2 elections, if there was no term limits he could just keep doing it and become "the decider". its a tough question. It's good if you have a good president and everyone wants him for a longer time. It could be bad if you have a bad president and still the people elect him (Chavez in Venezuela) is an example. He wins because the people vote for him Although the BungleBush has only a 20% approval rating, I have no doubt the Republican political machine would use it's usual deceit, chicanery, and outlandish dirty tricks to pull him through. Never underestimate the power and gullibility of the Christian right. So we need term limits to prevent this catastrophy from happening again. This is similiar to amending to premit non-American borne persons to run for presidency-do you think that is right? Most would deny making amendments to many of the original guidlines and regulations for that of rights, amendments and constitutional rights. Why? Because that is what America was founded on. If we lift restrictions on the terms-what is making it less than a dictatorship? This country is not a dictatorship. The president speaks in masses-and has hundreds of persons that are elected to preserve not the views of him-but more directly to us (statewide) those are the people that have influence. Allowing a president to govern for more than the issued amount of time? A waste of time in my opinion, as it could quickly arrise to a true dictator/socialist action. We need term limits on Congress too.These power seeking people need to be turned over.There is so much corruption in Congress,we will never hear about.They are filling their pockets.The lobbyists are from their own families.What a joke on the American public. Definitely not! We need term limits on ALL elective office. Public service is a brief civic duty, not a career. Never re-elect anyone. I think it should be changed to three terms. Also, I think a previous president should be allowed to rerun after a term off. No only should this ammendment remain in place is should apply to Senators and Congressmen as well |
