How can I sync two PCs using a USB cable?

I'm looking for a wire interface between two pcs (laptop and desktop) to temporarily share files. I can't use wireless in this office and my laptop lacks a parallel and serial port.
I'd like to see each computer's harddisk as an external drive.
Can I use a male to male USB cable connected to each computer?
What other options do I have?
thanks

definetly use a crossover network cable. Got to make sure it says crossover, or crosslink, a standard network cable won't work. Plug each end into each computers network card or ethernet port, if both computers have XP they will connect.

you need to go to www.radioshack.com and buy the special usb link cable. is about $ 40.00

Hook them up with an ethernet cable (make sure that when you buy it you tell them what its for so you dont get the wrong kind) and under control panel go to set up network connections.

No. Connecting a USB cable directly to both computers does not work unless it is a specific USB cable with a translator built in to the wire itself to enable communication between computers both ways. Your best solution is to find one of these USB data transfer cables or another option. Another option, if you have the capability to connect an ethernet cable, is to purchase a twisted ethernet cable. It has to be a crossover cable, not just a regular ethernet cable, otherwise it would be the same as connecting the single USB cable between both computers. I hope this helps!

buying a crossover network cable would be the easiest with XP there isn't any setup but using the same name for the workgroup on each computer
