Local Server?

I need to have local server in place in my office- for a LAN. Currently, 7 co-workers share a DSL line and our mail server is remote at our corporate location. How can this LAN be setup without changing our mail settings?
Once I have the LAN, I plan to install a contact managment software like Act!

You did not state what you want to accomplish with a local server. I am assuming a shared file server, and a location where the shared files for your contact management software can be located.
I believe you can connect a server just as if you added an 8th co-worker. The local server and your remote corporate mail server can remain separate. I believe you'll find most of the mail functions of contact management software depend on each worker's existing mail client software.
