Wireless Network Help?

All computers in my office are part of a wired network and share a printer. These are handled by the Routefinder Soho VPN Gateway that goes to the Netgear Wireless Router and then internet.

I have purchased a laptop that I have connected to the wireless internet no problem but want to access the printer and/or computers on the network.

Is this possible, and if so, how???

I'm a bit of a novice so "laymens terms" appreciated!!!

If I understand your setup you need to move the Soho Gateway!

Your connection DSL/Cable line -----> Netgear ---> VPN Gateway ----> Office Computers

If you want the wireless to be able to connect to the office machines they will have to also be connected to the same router

Changing the setup to DSL/CABLE ---> VPN GW ---> Netgear ---> Comptuers

Will put ALL MACHINES on the same network without having to get backwards through the VPN gateway (which shouldn't allow you in for security sake)!

You CAN change to using the following (much easier to setup)
DSL Line ----> VPN Gateway --- A Switch ---> an Access Point and Computers.

This will put the Access point on the SAME local network without RE- Routing and allow more computers to connect the switch can be any size 4-24 ports or even more. The access point will allow wireless connections and you then have only ONE ROUTER in the system. (Do note I would use an Access point not a netgear router -- an AP puts wireless onto a wired network without adding another router!)

Otherwise you have to change the subnet and IP ranges within the Netgear and in the Soho Gateway which could "couple" the two networks and this will decrease the VPN security big time.

You may need to consult with a Pro to set this up, using DUAL routers is not simple to setup and get working correctly.

You probably have to join the domain that the network is on. If you're on windows go to MyComputer. Right click to get to Properties, go to Computer Name tab and you'll see a Change button. You have to have XP pro to do this Home edition can't connect. Same with Vista. You'll also need to have admin privileges on the network to do this.
