Are taxes patriotic?

I always hear the Rupugblicans argue that taxes are to high, that democratics are tax and spend.
However
1) Why do they never complain about Corparate tax shelters who stiff the government making the public pay 15% higher taxes than they should.
2) How can they argue tax cuts in a time of war, is that patriotic.
3) Although Tax and spend is a cute catch phrase, Why don't they see that taxes are our patriotic duty as members in a society to contribute our fair share. For example the military isn't free, the post office, the FDA,

Turbo Wedgie...a Corparate reformer...wow...whats next tree hugging?

Repugs are the all about me party, totally greedy, never mind about what is good for the country. Clinton raised taxes on the very rich and the repuglican rhetoric was it was the largest tax hike ever. In answer to your question yes it is totally patriotic to pay your fair share to help run the country. I didn't mind getting into a higher tax bracket because it meant I was making more money.

The repub's would like the poor to pay their taxes.

no, they are not.

Thats a load of malarkey. Taxes aren't patriotic. (your ha ha mispelling is getting old too should i call democrats democraps?)

Taxes are way to high they are spent on worthless programs. I mean for crying out loud we are still paying tax money for a tax that was for the spanish american war. The gov't wants to keep their money. Both Democrats and Republicans.

The tax money that goes to real services is very small compared to the worthless programs that mire this country down.

A "patriot" describes the early Americans that rebelled against the "taxation without representation" English. Over time, it has come to describe those who support this country of ours, and the concepts that our Founding Fathers established as a free country.

If a patriot were to believe in our country's founding they would not support the current tax schemes that have subverted the very constitution that was put in place.

The ideas of socialism and tyranny are not what our country is all about, and tend to come from foreign influences. These are not patriotic ideals if you are an American.

The rich don't pay taxes! Corporations don't pay taxes! They ones they screwed (Employees) pay the taxes!!

Who do you think is going to pay the 8 Trillion 400 Billion deficit? The republicans. Ha! That's a joke!
They think because they screwed everyone to get their money (employees) that it all belongs to them!! The ones that they screwed are suppose to pay the taxes!!

The "cut taxes and skyrocket spending" repubs are no better than the "tax and spend" dems. What good will cut taxes be when your great-great-great-great-grandchildren will be paying for this administration's "accomplishments"?

republicans like to get benefits but not pay for them. it is rational. so i guess they are just being rational and defending their self-interest. supposedly if everyone is rational and defends their self-interest in voting, then we will have a government that reflects the people (majority)
but if you can manipiltae dumb people to vote against their own rational self-interest by using emotion and appealing to fear or ignorance, you can hijack the government so that it just does what a small percentage of manipulators want it to do.
It helps to be rich so you can afford the manipoulations of publicity( buy media) politics( buy politicans) education (underfund schools) etc, This allow you to easily manipulate a corrupt government and a uneducated majority of poor stupid voters to vote for laws that help the rich for stupid emotional reasons, such as gay marriage, bibles in schools, flag burning, and other red-herrings issues that really do not mean anything.
It is fun and easy to get what you want in USA if you are rich.
Just one more reason to get rich and defend your interests.
This can only be done in a democracy that allows everyone to vote. That is why the rich of the world want to spread democracy but not pay for schools or increase minimum wages. It all makes sense. keep them poor and dumb and they will be easy to manipulate. After all. we do need somebody to do all the work.
What is the sense of being rich if you have to wash you own car etc. Servants are necessary to the pursuit of happiness.
Give them just enough education and pay to keep them coming back to their jobs so they can buy food etc. not so little that they will revolt. just enough.

You mention "they" a lot... are you referring to Republicans or Democrats? Or are you referring to government in general?
Well, assuming you're referring to "they" in a non-partisan manner:
1) Lobbyists who bought the representatives pay them to benefit their means and ends. The public pays higher taxes because there are many more programs to fund, namely a costly war.
2) I'm not sure who's arguing for tax cuts in a time of war-- both Democrats and Republicans have agreed on tax increases. Arguing can be patriotic, but when the discussion is as meaningless as tax code, no body is going to call you a patriot for saying "down with Article 709H!"
3) First of all, taxes are not a "patriotic duty" they are a necessary burden for our society to operate properly. Besides, the phrase "Tax and Spend" refers to tax dollars being put to use, not as some detriment.

So in summary, taxes are not patriotic, they are simply necessary aspects of society, to be "patriotic" is up to the individuals reaction to the taxes and the government. Patriotism is an attitude, not a quantifiable entity.

1. The conservative ones do, but you're not listening.

2. Destroying the economy to feed the greed of government - of the $2.4 trillion budget, arguably less than $1 trillion of the spending was for Constitutionally legal outlays. Welfare, social security, mediscam, corporate and agricultural welfare, education, housing, pork barrel projects, etc are all unConstitutional spending. So there should be lower taxes.

3. If you're so patriotic, why don't you send in extra money beyond what your tax is? Why doesnt' Kerry, or Kennedy, or Rockefeller? There is no law preventing all of you patriots from sending more money to the government.

Tree hugging? No. But I do believe in proper stewardship of the natural resources. Not Gaia-worship negligence. Not the mythical evil corporate polluter. Proper use of resources. Logging. Mining. etc.

But true conservatives do not believe in the government, at any level, meddling in the level playing field of business by favoring some businesses with special payouts or special tax reductions. That is government bias, and it is plainly wrong.

HYPOCRISY.

Both sides of the aisle are in Corporate pockets. Period. End of story.

We must accept it and move on.

Only difference is the alleged -represented- left likes to engage in a sort of "NO" theatre.

You know those Japanese stage plays in which men pretend to be women, and carry on for hours howling incomprehensibly to the beating of drums and dreary cymbals.

Republicans would rather put a sticker on their car then pay for the war.

Republicans see no hypocracy in saying that 2-3 BILLION dollars a month in Iraq is "Worth It" but then whine and compain that their taxes are too high.

The US Deparment of Defense Budget for 2007 is 493 Billion Dollars. This does not include money for the Iraq War. This money comes from tax dollars (and borrowing from other countries). So, if defending the US and fighting the war in Iraq are patriotic, so is paying taxes so these things can by done.
