Did I say something wrong, should i have been more careful?

I am a young girl, without much work force experience. I have never worked in a successful large company before and I am still learning the ropes. I am moving up FAST in my new career, and have just been awarded Employee of the Year by my peers.

However, one of my coworkers from the corporate office and her husband (who also works over there) came to me after the awards to tell me how he thinks his wife should have won the award. He didn鈥檛 laugh nor smile, or offer any words of congratulations. I just shrug it off and took it as he might have drunk to much at the open bar.

So come Monday I was talking to my close fellow employee girl friend, and I am not sure how it came up鈥?but before I could stop myself鈥?the story came out of my mouth. I am SO fearful that this will start office rumors or drama. I trust her, but I know she does share news with her girl friend who is one of the top dogs in our company鈥?should I worry or not?!? I now know better for next time鈥? Just keep it shut.

Do you think this is going to get around or have any negative effects?

you do have to be careful... try to let this one slide. be diplomatic. if trauma starts from it just apply that you felt bad over all. you wished they only gave you support and feel it should be dropped. if the problem gets out of hand maybe you should try to talk to the boss to see what can be done if nothing it shall pass.

that person who gave you a trip over your success should learn some manners and some work ethic. i think i can see why things didn't go their way in the first place. seems their opinions may not just have been unnecessary just with you but i'm sure with others.

let this pass.. it will get around but try to be diplomatic about it and courteous.

they should have congratulated you instead of ripping you a new one.

(which i'm sure they're notorious for and have done this to others over time)

and this is probably not the first time this person has "put their foot in their mouth" so to speak.

bad sport they are, they should learn a few things about being a good sport and a good coworker. oh and maturity!

Don't worry.

1) It happened, so you are not making up anything

2) If he didn;t want the story to be retold, he wouldn't have said it in the first place

3) Friends watch out for you

i wouldn't worry, even if it does it will blow over by the end of the week....

the husband was probably just voicing his wife's jealously and you shouldn't worry too much about it. don't talk about it anymore and keep going in your career. it sounds like you're doing awesome.

Sounds like the green-eyed monster bit your co-worker. He should have kept his mouth shut after the ceremony. Bad sport.

Work is always a gossip hole unfortunately. Just let it ride for right now. Things may not be as band as you think. You needed to vent. So if someone says something to you, say " I just needed to vent, it bothered me that I received this and then someone had to try and ruin it for me."

If you acted concerned about it than maybe she won't say anything...but it depends on how she replied. But I wouldn't worry about it too much right now, because problems do happen in the buisness, but if it happenes to you sort it out with that guy. Just talk to him about it, and if he holds resentment towards you than I would speak to a supervisor about it.

you say you work in a successful large company!! don't you guys have somethingelse to do such as WORKING instead of talkin behind others and creating some useless rumors hahahahaha all i wanna say to you GET TO WORK lolol

No, you did'nt say anything wrong . It sounds like sour grapes to me. BEWARE of office politics until you know which way the wind blows, and until you have more experience. Go get them tiger!

Don't worry about it, he should have kept his mouth shut. Congratulations on the award, be proud of yourself that is a big achievement.

Don't worry people are always jealous of other people, it is a fact of life, makes no difference if you are young or old, they aalways think they are better than everyone else! But maybe better only at a*ss kissing! Good Luck!

it's ok that you said it. it was said to you. it's how you said it. it was the dude not the lady. maybe that lady did deserve some recognition and you might have said that instead of what you are worried that you said. you left it all out.you know what. one month i got an award like that and i didn't sit in the directors chair that was given to me because of the jealousy. i decided to keep the peace and share the chair.not once did it mean one thing to me. i was grateful to be recognized but in turn i can't do a clip on my own, so i shared the recognition...

No matter what you do there will always be "office politics"!!! As long as you can sleep at night knowing you've done the best work you can...don't worry about others. It seems that you can never make everyone understand. It will take to much trouble. Do your job and like you said ....Keep it shut.
