I have Woindows VISTA office installed on P IV Dual Core Desktop PC. I am facing the problem of slow browsing

My Internet download speed is slow and upload speed is OK. We got 512kbps symentric link which is terminated on our ISA server and than terminated on unmanged LAN switch from there is shared by 25 users. I also got Norton 2007 installed on my PC. Other Internet users are getting fine speed 300 kbpsdownload and 300 kbps upload but I am getting 75kbps download and 250 kbps. Our wired LAN is also not fast as well. It is all 100Mbps LAN witch is conected through unmanged switch. File copying between LAN pcs are also slow. We are using IPv4 through Nating and DHCP. Nating and DHCP service is prvided by ISA server where Internet conection is terminated through Static WAN IP. I need faster Internet and Intranet speed.

I would be blaming Norton personally. Do the other machines have Norton 2007? Norton uses a LOT of resources. Try turning it off and see if you notice any improvement. Get another antivirus product.

ctrl+alt+delete will bring up the task manager. See how many programs are running. You may have apps from e.g. Adobe, HP products etc running in the background that are also using your connection unnecessarily.

Turn off all programs that use the internet, e.g. explorer, email handling apps, msn messenger etc etc. Now go to your control panel and check out your connection. Does it still show that data is being transferred? You may have an application running in the background that is hogging all your bandwidth.

You can set your firewall to deny access to the internet for applications that you don't believe require it e.g. VISTA office does not need access to the internet all the time. If it is using it, deny him access. Your printer may also think it has the right to access the net as do Dell products, often unnecessarily, slowing down your speed.
