Dont know how to read him?

dont understand guy in work. Everyone goes on at how shy/quiet he is but he gets on with the majority of women in his department yet is awkward/nervous and seems awkward round me which i dont know why as ive never made him feel like that. When were on workdos hes alright when we start talking and he does share personal stuff with me ie family stuff/problems.
He tells me about stuff going on in his office and how certain people are being slagged off. He must trust me at least. I do quite like him but his signals are mixed as when we do go on workdos its me inating convo with him yet he makes convo with the other gals of the office. I dont know what to make of his mixed signals. I also get the feeling sometimes that he feels uncomfortable if he has to sit by me. I dont know what ot do as in the beginning i thought he liked me but now im not so sure.
He has been trying to get a dvd back that he wanted to lend me but he keeps coming up to me and appologising for why he cant get it.

I think that he likes you and is upset that he may have lost your dvd. Just ask him honesty is the best way
