Can a Mexican timeshare (Mayan Palace) collect on whats left of our contract if i stop payments?

I recently was purchased a time share with the mayan palace in cancun. They are part of the Groupo Maya and have office all over Mexico and one in Texas. When we signed the contract they told us all of these great things which turned out to be false. They also told us that we could not cancel the contract because it was a transfer from one of their current members that had upgraded to the Grand Mayan. This was false and we did have 5 days to cancel the contract under mexican law however we did not do it within those five days.

My question is on the remaining balance, if we simply dont make any payments can they come after us to collect that money and ruin our credit? The contract was signed in Mexico and it states in the contract that Mexican law over sees it. I do not want to give them any more of our money since there is really no way to make any money from renting it as they promised $1500 per week when in reality it rents for the basic maintenance fees.

Edit: we can resell but they go for much less than 30% of what we are going to pay making it a lose basis. Lesson: dont buy tsha

It is a thin line because they have offices in Texas as well. If Mexican law over sees it then you should be fine because I am sure you don't care about your credit score in Mexico. Just make sure the office in Texas doesn't over see.

you need a good international lawyer. I would suggest going in that direction rather than seeking legal advice here.

As to your credit, that depends upon whether or not they are members of one of the major credit reporting companies.
