How can I make a direct connection between vista and xp home? |
I have read a lot of step by step instructions on this and I still cant make it work. I have a patch cable. Is that the same as a crossover cable? I have run the setup wizard on both computers. they both have different names and are on the same workgroup. File sharing is turned on on the computer i am trying to share files from. There is no indication, however, that any network exists between them. I have tried all of the wizards related to setting up a home of office network, but none of them do anything for me. I realize that the different OS might be an issue, but chances are it can be done and it would be easy if I were not so useless with networking. Anybody have any advice? I should also add that I once used the same cable to connect two machines which ran xp. of course that does not prove that the cable is not faulty now... Its probably the cable. Everyting else you did right. I have a network between Vista and XP machines using a router so it can be done. a network cable ( patch cable ) is not the same thing as a cross over cable for start so thats one of your issues |
