Windows Server?

My office is converting to windows server 2003, we'd like to use it for file sharing, file backups, and roaming profiles on 15 workstations. My question is, if we have server 2003 with 15 "CAL's", do i still have to buy licenses for 15 computers to use XP? (we're on 2000 still for the most part).

The CALs are CLIENT ACCESS LICENSES - they allow systems to access the server - they are NOT operating system licenses. You can continue to use 2000 if you like, but if you want XP, you NEED to buy XP Upgrade Licenses.

Like what? Licensing is confusing, but pretty much black and white either you buy the licenses or you don't upgrade. In the future it might be better if you asked such a question in a forum that invites two way communication - Yahoo Answers doesn't, IMHO. Report It
