Should I or should I not get a birthday / Christmas present?

My birthday was in early August,
And Christmas is coming near.
My dad promised me that he'll get me a digital SLR for me that we can both share our passion : Photography.
Our old camera died a few years ago, and my photography skills are turning rusty. There's no other camera in the house except my phone's camera.

Only my dad works with an office job, my mom is a housewife.
There's the house renovations and to buy the house, and yet we are going to get a new house in Melbourne, Australia where we are moving in the next 2 months. And dad still doesn't want to sell the house we are currently staying in.
So there's gonna be 3 houses.
The whole cost? About more than 500, 000 US$.
And my brother and sister is going to university, I'm just in high school.
My siblings and mother are spending money like water, going out almost everyday.

I still can't work, I'm underage, I have protective parents and my bank's money is in some sort of mutual fund.

I really don't want to bug him about it, but I'm seriously dying just waiting.
I haven't got any good Christmas presents from my parents in ages!
The only memorable present is my camera phone from my parents for my previous birthday.
And I'm just another middle class family.

Should I just wait and let everything settle into place? But it just seems so unfair that my siblings get to buy 50$ stuff everytime they go out.
The only thing I spend on is the groceries.

Talk to your dad the way you talked with us. Tell him how badly you want the camera he promised you. If he realizes how much it means to you, and how patiently you have waited for it without bugging him. Mention it before Christmas while things are on sale, and that way he can get it at a good price.

get one, just get a cheaper one rather then a wholeout buy,
it could work.

y not try using personalised gifts? they can help you save a lot :]

Sweetie, sit down with your dad and present all of this same information to HIM in a calm, rational manner. You seem to have a valid argument. Remind him of his promise, give examples of how you have been good and deserve the gift (hopefully you have been good). Good Luck--MissDelanne

You shouldn't worry about your parents financial situation...that's their problem....not yours. If you feel guilty, you can always ask for cheaper gifts, or for them to donate to a charity or something instead?

I think it's nice that your dad wants to buy you a camera, so you can share your passion together.

totally. Im sure ur dad wouldnt of promised u that if he was broke or somthing!
If ur rents r spending lots of money im sure they can a foord 2!
They wouldnt be spending so much money if they had none.
ur only young d/w bout it, enjoy that time of the yr wen u do get prezzies and stuff!
hope i helped
good luck!!! :)
